I thought the whole point was that they were ineffective. Not that they didn't try hard enough, etc. but that they did not have enough behind them.

About UK staffers that say...
Right now they 'shack up' with a staff senate. The staff senate has zero expertise in dealing with the university - and it shows. The unions have been in this situation before and have done very well for other similar groups with limited power. They know how to get the best for their people under the current system.
As far as a UPS buyout goes it is the first I've heard of it. It is not suprising though.
